In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine. Since then there has been skepticism about the significance of the energy savings that can be achieved and the cost in terms of readability of black web pages.
We believe that there is value in the concept because even if the energy savings are small, they all add up. Secondly we feel that seeing Blackle every time we load our web browser reminds us that we need to keep taking small steps to save energy.
Awesome. Hopefully it does a good job raising the white liberal guilt quotient as well. Though methinks it might could use a better name than "Blackle." This might be a little predictable from me, but how about: Negroogle, The Affirmative Action Search Engine.
Yeah, I'm feeling that. Eff the man's "white" search engine, Negroogle bidges! It should have "reparations" automatically queued in the search box also.

I'm also currently conducting tests to see if the engine returns hits on CPTime as well.
ReplyDeleteI've seen Blackle and it's not any different than Google, so all it's really doing is saying that Black people "can't do nothin'" without white people. Word to Jason Whitlock.
ReplyDeleteI guess it might be good for energy conservation, but functionality wise it doesn't seem up to par. Every one of my searches either sent me back to your page, Popeyes.com, or The National Watermelon Growers Association website.
ReplyDeleteFunny stuff... although I was admittedly slow on the up-take that Blackle has nothing to do with race. This is how urban legends get started... I heard Homeland Security is secretly behind "Blackle" because they wanna track the online activities of black people... Seriously, dude... The same program that puts passifying chemicals in KFC.
ReplyDeleteIs this a serious topic, really? Wow. As if there NEEDS to be search engines dedicated to different races of folks. What's next? BTW, "Negoogle"? That's hilarious! I laughed out loud.
ReplyDeleteI have to research this for myself.
Nice birddoggin'.
Peace....
I only got ten hits on my name on Blackle... waht does that mean about my blackness? I'm getting worried.....
ReplyDeleteBlackle only saves energy if you're using an old CRT monitor. If you're using a flat screen or a laptop, it actually uses more energy. Take from that what you will.
ReplyDeletei thought you were playing. wow. i'm so glad this isn't made for black people. whew. my chest tightened for juuuuust a second.
ReplyDeleteit does look kinda cool though.
Would there be a search engine for those with one black parent and one white parent?
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing, Google shall change to black straight!!
ReplyDeleteLOL@"negroogle"
ReplyDeleteBlackle is a cheap copy of the first page of www.searchincolor.com, which has offered google search in various colors since a much longer time.
ReplyDeleteI dont know about energy saving-but some colors definitely are better for my eyes. e.g. white on green.

ReplyDeleteHere is the italian one WWW.NEROOGLE.IT Another nice ECONOMY
ReplyDeleteDarkoogle.es and Blackle.es are the most popular. However the search result from those two seems to be a bit different. Darkoogle.es uses Google.es while Blackle.es still uses Google.com..
ReplyDeleteyeah... pretty sure its not to track the activities of black people (vote obama 08! w00t!) i think its just to save energy and its easy on the eyes
ReplyDeleteActually I've seen the site several times as well as used it. But I don't think its perfectly done cause when you open the documents for information it is white again.....so I think it should be improved, in order to reduce the amount of energy used in higher quantities!!!
ReplyDeleteBut it is very useful and pursues a good objective!!! =0)
